There was a time when you would drive along the A7 from Estepona to Gibraltar and while passing the urbanization Buenas Noches concentrating on one of the many roundabouts almost miss the restaurant La Casona. No longer. La Casona has undergone a major facelift and it shines like a beacon, welcoming you to make a stop to relax on the beautiful spacious, terrace. This is divided into 2 parts, one directly in front of the restaurant with chairs and dining tables under sun umbrellas and another, to the side with palm trees and an array of black rattan couches with bright orange cushions. Here you can sit back, listen to the music, drinking your aperitif and ordering your meal. Josef, the attentive headwaiter will then call you over to the dining table once your dinner is ready. This outdoor lounge is where you can retire to after your dinner for a digestive or a cocktail or maybe you'll spend the whole evening here, nibbling on olives and having a few snacks such as Nachos, Mozzarella Sticks, Jalapeños or Chicken Fingers.
The owners, two brothers, Claudio and Alfonso have taken parents into consideration and there will soon be an extensive play area for children with a blow-up castle directly in front of the restaurant (opening tba), so parents can continue their meal in solitude, knowing that their offspring are safe.
The interior of La Casona is also divided into two areas leading off from the large bar. One for smokers and the other a non-smoking zone.
If you`'re a lover of meat then you will be well advised to order one of the many BBQ'd specialities from steaks, to chicken and lamb chops. Try the Iberian Pig, you'll be surprised how different the meat tastes from other pork, and be a daredevil and order the grilled blood sausage it's amazingly good. All BBQ"™d meats come with a choice of chips, vegetables, rice, jacket potato with aioli and sauces. Though not on the menu, the lamb always comes with mint sauce! The choice of fish dishes is small but all three are highly recommendable. They have lovely salads and the pizza bread with garlic and cheese is brilliant. La Casona has a large variety of pizzas, with crispy thin bases and generous toppings. Very delicious. There are several pasta dishes to choose from all al dente with fresh ingredients. To finish off your meal have a Crêpe filled with Dulce de Leche (creamy toffee)!
If you happen to stop by when the kitchen is closed you'll still be able to order a pizza or one of the delicious wraps or salads and finish off with a dessert.
La Casona is an excellent choice for a good meal and a place to relax, take in the sun or at night, look up at the stars, sipping your wine and breathing in the very essence of Andalucía.
