You just can't miss Tanino. It's bright, luscious red building beckons to all who drive past on the A7 to come in and find out what it's like. Especially in the warmer months when the outside patio is full of people, obviously enjoying themselves, you won't want to drive by.
To the left on the building is a large patio, with chairs, tables and several sofas. Moroccan lamps add to the laid-back chill atmosphere. To the right of the entrance is a lawn with deck chairs and sofas. Inside warm wooden floors, bistro chairs and tables with candles and fresh flowers invite you in. There is a bar you can sit at and enjoy a pre-dinner drink and observe how the cocktails are created. The walls are painted in subtle colours and the paintings on the walls serve not only as decoration but are part of a small exhibition and are on sale. The lights are submerged into the ceiling and add to the intimate atmosphere in the evening.
If you are a fan of cocktails then you will not only find your old favourites here but also some you may never have heard of such as Chilli Martini or Fabulous Cheesecake! And there are non-alcoholic ones too. The wine menu is extensive with red Riojas, Ribera Del Dueros, and Mancha wines as Rosés from Italy, Portugal, as well as Spain and Spanish white wines.
The bread is accompanied by a fine tasting olive oil and a delicious cream cheese dip. Start off with Fried Mozzarella Sticks, Vegetable Tempura, Fried Provoleta Cheese, or Fried Chicken in strips. Each of these is served with a dip of tomato, mustard, and/or soy sauce. You could also just have a plate with a little of each. The salads are fresh and very different to the every day salad and can also be ordered in half portions to make way for the main course. In fact, the portions in Tanino are very generous and offer quantity as well as quality.
The Roasted Sirloin comes with provoleta on top and served with a corn cake stuffed with chorizo and potato. Served as a turret surrounded with gently fried rocket, this creation by Nicolas the chef, is truly yummy. That goes for the homemade Pumpkin Ravioli in a creamy sauce with cherry tomatoes and walnuts as well. Unfortunately the Wok was oversalted when we had it, but otherwise everything was delicious.
One of the propietors, Victoria, José or Gaston will gladly explain the special dessert of the day. In our case it was a flan with a nutty taste and had Carly, who isn't into flans, totally convinced. But all the desserts are exceptional and the chocoholic will love the Chocolate Fondant, whereas the Cheese Cake lover will be in 7th heaven with the White Chocolate and Lime Cheesecake.
Tanino opens at 9 am in order to provide the hungry with breakfast. Fresh juices, toast, bagels, croissants, bacon, eggs - scrambled, fried or in an omelette - are all available and provide an excellent start to your day on the Costa del Sol.
