Vino Mio is an outstanding restaurant combining excellent food and a wonderful atmosphere supported by the ever smiling Heléné and her great team.
We chanced upon this restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat before going to a concert in the Teatro Cervantes at a time when the majority of surrounding restaurants hadn't yet opened for dinner. We were in luck as Vino Mio serves food all day. A young, modern, cosmopolitan ambience greeted us as we walked in and within minutes we realised that we had stumbled upon a gem of a restaurant.
Heléné from Holland is not only the owner but her friendly face and her open, welcoming way are part and parcel of Vino Mio. She opened up 5 years ago and her manner and that of her staff have definitely helped establish this restaurant as a secret garden of culinary delights. This restaurant lies in a side street within a minute's walk of the Teatro Cervantes. There is a large welcoming bar at the entrance, complemented by a few bistro tables for those who only want a drink and have a small tapa. From here you walk into the dining area that is reminiscent of a French Bistro and at the end of this room is the large open kitchen, allowing you to be a voyeur and watch the cooks preparing the wonderful food. A smaller dining area leads off from the main area but it is light and friendly due to French windows that open out to the main part. The cuisine is a fusion of Asian and European food using only the freshest of ingredients. The complimentary bread is served with a pâté of green olives and Parmesan cheese. There is a choice of salads, each being very different from what you are used to in Spanish restaurants. The salad Queseria combines a wonderful array of cheeses with a delicious marinade and the Marrakech Cosmopolitan salad is a wonderful mixture of Moroccan spices. Vino Mío salad is light and yet hearty, due to the addition of fried Spanish ham. As a starter you should try the Pato Pekín; a crispy roll, filled with duck and served with a sweet Soya sauce. Pasta Rasta combines green Parppadelle in a creamy sauce with juicy shrimps. The Dutch / Indonesian influence is represented by the Saté Bali. Soft, tender chicken with peanut sauce. The Wok dish can be served with meat, fish or vegetables and is also the dish of the day. Vino Mio is probably one of the only places on the Costa del Sol, which serves crocodile meat, and believe me, Dundee's Delight is definitely worth ordering. Vegetarians are also catered for and people who love desserts will find it hard to make a choice, as everything is home made and yummy. There are always 5 different house wines that are changed monthly. The walls of the restaurant host a monthly changing exhibition of paintings or photos. Heléné's creative ideas are responsible for the many events hosted in Vino Mio. From wine tasting, to musical performances, to stand-up comedy and flamenco, all combined with good food.
