This very Spanish bar and restaurant is a place not to be missed whilst in Nerja. You have the choice to stay at the bar by the entrance and enjoy an excellent glass of wine or cold beer whilst eating one of the many tapas or take a step up to the right and take a seat at one of the tables and order a full meal. The friendly team attending to your needs comprises of Sergio, the owner and chef, his son Kuki, who's in charge of the bar and wielding the sharp knife, slicing the hams and Juan-Ma, the ever attentative waiter. Together with their colleagues in the kitchen this group will make your stay at Pata Negra memorable. The food prepared by Sergio is excellent and comparable to any haute cuisine restaurant. We started with a fluffy Leek Pie filled with Salmon and Spinach and a smooth dill cream on the side as well as a oven baked Courgette stuffed with Seafood in a Béchamel Sauce topped with Cheese. Usually this filling is served in a crêpe but the courgette makes it much lighter and more suitable as a starter. As Pata Negra is a special variety of pork we decides to go for 2 meat dishes and started with the pork steak with almonds in a Malaga cream sauce. The meat was succulent and the almonds had been roasted prior to being added to the rich, creamy sauce flavoured with sweet Malaga wine. Talk about cream overdose! We also had a beautiful Entrecôte topped with caramelized onions and bacon. The sweetness of the onions contraste perfectly with the saltiness of the crispy bacon and was just delicious. We would have ordered the Leg of Lamb which had been recommended to us, but were informed that it has to be pre-ordered, something we'll do next time we go. All meals are served with a portion of fresh al dente vegetable as well as potatoes of your choice. The portions are so generous that there was hardly any room for a dessert but we did eventually manage to share a Crême Brulée. Lovely and creamy and like all the desserts, made on the premises.
If you're as full as we were you will find yourself being invited to a "chupito" on the house but beware, they're so nice at Pata Negra that you might not make it through the door and end up at the bar with Sergio and Kuki having a couple of chupitos more! Andalujo 2009
