That’s because you’re in the tapas bar – where the tapas are great – this then leads to your left into the restaurant. Paco (nickname for Fransisco) the owner comes from a family of fishermen and buys all the fish and seafood on the menu directly from the fishing boats that come into Estepona harbour. That’s why some dishes on the menu might not be available and vice versa. Whatever, you can be rest assured that the fish is fresh, fresh, fresh. This very traditional Spanish fish and seafood restaurant offers excellent Spanish cuisine without any fussy trimmings. Ask for his recommendations for fresh seafood and the catch of the day. We also had ‘bien me sabe’, cod marinated in vinegar and deep-fried in a light batter as a starter. A dish with the same name is also on the dessert menu. In this case, it’s a dish of cream of almonds! The ‘Cazuela de Rape y Langostinos’ (monkfish with prawns in an almond sauce) is delicious. By the way, Cazuela and Zarzuela are the same thing in Spain, however a Zarzuela has a variety of fish and seafood. Well worth trying is Paco´s ‘Bacalao gratinado’ (gratined salted cod), Bacalao is a typical Iberian speciality. The desserts are all home made. Do try the white chocolate flan (even if like me you do not like the traditional flan), or the previously mentioned bien me sabe. Our favourite however is the Apple Tart on flaky pastry with ice cream and miel de caña (Spanish sugar cane honey) – amazingly delicious that even the French would be jealous. By the way - the Rosé is Gran Feudo - can´t go wrong there Andalujo 2007
