There are many restaurants along the promenade in Marbella and the choice is overwhelming but Boulevard is definitely one to try out. The food here is excellent - fine cuisine with a beautiful uninterrupted view of the sea. The restaurant has a large windowed terrace out front, with dining for 40-50 people and a few tables on the promenade for enjoying a cool drink whilst people watching. The tables are covered with white linen tablecloths and decorated with a small lamp and a vase. The waitresses are friendly, competent and observant. Juan Antonio is the chef and he makes a point of coming out to the guests to listen to any special requests or to describe the dishes on the menu and put together a gastronomic delight for your personal taste. He describes his food as "Gastro Fusion", which is an eclectic mix of dishes from all around the world made from local products. Elements of Asia, America and the Mediterranean combine to delight your palate. You could start off with breakfast and enjoy one of the many freshly pressed fruit juices followed by a full English breakfast, or Eggs Benedict, a French Omelette, an American Bagel and if you're there for Brunch you could try one of the Wraps or Mixed Sandwiches which are definitely a delicious meal in itself. Juan Antonio prepared a cross section of the menu for us, which started with a "Degustacíon de neuestras 5 tapas Boulevard". This consisted of the "Croquetas de la Pringa del Puchero con su caldito y hierbabuena". Puchero is a traditional Spanish meat & vegetable stew and the caldito is the broth it's cooked in, which is served on the side. The croquette was made from those same ingredients and meant to be dipped (pringar) into the broth, which was light and fresh. The "Parfait de Foie" - the delicate taste of foie on top of a puree of black olives is unusual and perfect. The "Gamba Garbirdinados" - prawn in an overcoat, is a battered prawn with a soft tartar sauce. Crunchy green asparagus accompanied by a lemon mayonnaise carried the flavour of summer and the "Pincho de Pollo" was absolutely exquisite with its succulent chicken skewer accompanied by an amazing peanut sauce. Our main courses began with an oxtail lasagne. The meat was so tender you didn't need a knife to cut it and the carrot sauce was very tasty. The "Salteado de Rape" followed, which was an excellent combination of firm, white fish with a sauce made from wonderful red Mediterranean prawn. Deep fried parsley added a special flavour. All desserts are home-made and make sure you ask, if there is a daily special. There were two, when we visited. Tarta Zanahoria - soft and moist and definitely for those with a sweet tooth. Less sweet, but extremely refreshing, was the "Tarte de Chocolate con Guiness y Mango Sorbet". Apart from enjoying the delicious food, the tasty wines and the wonderful view you will find yourself smiling even more when presented the bill, the cost effectiveness is unbelievable!
